Are Bitmoji’s a Thing of the Past?
Bitmoji’s are a hilarious concept for me. You've probably seen a Bitmoji floating around on Snapchat, Facebook, or Instagram. ‘Emoji’ itself means “a small digital image or icon used to express an idea, emotion, etc.”
On the surface, it’s purely accessory. It’s a very simple way for creatives to create a caricature of themselves, and easy enough for non-creatives to try something new that doesn’t require a new profile or login to remember. They add feelings to conversations.
For brands, the risk of Bitmoji’s can be confusing. While technically Snap, Inc. (the owner of Bitmoji) does not allow usage of the avatars outside the Snapchat app, that has not stopped creators to monetize and create their own versions for professional use.
When emojis were first introduced, it changed the way people communicated completely. Instead of sending a written response, all people needed to do was send a laughing emoji when they find something funny. Bitmoji has a pretty similar premise but allows the user to send a reaction message and adds a visual element to any conversation. In addition, Bitmojis have made communication between users simultaneously more personal while still being extremely informal. Through a sticker, they get anything across from a serious message to a hilarious response without having to type a single key.
With the integration onto most messaging platforms such as Gmail and Outlook, companies can use their brands’ (APPROVED!) Bitmoji throughout their email marketing campaigns. When creating a Bitmoji, brands must ensure that it aligns with their mission statement. Using Bitmoji, brands can then create fun and inviting geo-filters for events or the general location. This is extremely beneficial as it increases brand awareness and reaches a larger market.
Is Bitmoji right for you? That is up to your own personal social media usage and overall brand vision. In my personal opinion, I believe Bitmoji’s are best served as a communication tool and not to be included in your overall marketing approach. However, if you decide to sprinkle in the replica avatar of yourself in a social media comment, that could go a long way and show your audience you are in-touch with trends and expressing yourself in a captivating way.
